Wise Words

Strength in Words

It’s graduation time and I love this time of year. As I  remember my own graduation with fond memories, I am flooded with the same emotions and sense of pride I felt so many years ago. Perhaps even more so this year as my beloved nephew recently graduated from high school and will begin his new adventure at Oglethorpe University in Georgia.  As one life chapter closes another one opens ripe with possibility. The journey continues and it’s awesome to pocket lessons learned from those that have traveled the road before us. For me, it’s a great annual reminder to pause, reflect and soak up some inspiration from commencement speeches. These wise words can benefit us all as we continue to grow and move forward.

One of my favorite commencement speechs of 2018 is Abby Wambach’s at Barnard College. Her words, passion and dedication really spoke to me as I am sure they did the entire class of Barnard 2018. A few of my favorite quotes from her speech:

  1. “You’re allowed to feel disappointed when life’s benched you.”
  2. “Women must champion each other.”
  3. “What you do, will never define you. Who you are, always will.”

Thank you, @AbbyWambach, for reminding women to DEMAND the ball. May your leadership from the sidelines continue to inspire many generations to come. You definitely inspired me during my personal transition.
